Cincy's one-stop spot for sustainable waste management!
The Cincinnati Recycling and Reuse Hub (CRRH) will reduce the amount of waste going to local landfills by creating a “one-stop” drop-off location for items that can be recycled or reused but that can't go into the traditional single-stream recycling bins. The “one-stop” model is unique in that it will save time, effort, and gas for donors, and it will allow more items to be recycled or reused than the current waste/recycling/reuse infrastructure for the Greater Cincinnati Area allows. The location of the Hub will be carefully chosen to be easily accessible from all areas of the Tri-State.

In later phases, we will also collect reusable and recyclable items from area businesses, schools, and other organizations to increase the total recycling rate of the region.
We will also have a classroom at the Hub, where we will have educational programs to help people learn to reduce the amount of items they use, to find creative ways to reuse what they have, and to teach them how to properly recycle what they can’t reuse. These programs will be presented both by Hub staff and by experts from other organizations, so that we can harness the collective sustainability knowledge of our region.
Initially, the Hub will be run by volunteers. Later phases will allow for paid staff to run the organization’s programs, with continued support from volunteers. The plan also focuses on employing adults with developmental disabilities.
The long-term plan for CRRH includes several smaller satellite drop-off locations in the Greater Cincinnati Area, with the original large Hub continuing to serve as the main location for all sorting and distribution. With this added growth, CRRH will continually increase the sorting capacity at the Hub by installing optical scanners and other automation to help sort some of the items. As other regional sustainability programs begin, CRRH will build on these area partnerships, such as those dealing with reusable takeout food containers, incentivized reverse-vending for beverage containers, and decentralized composting.
