Big Bone Lick, established in 1960, is an Ice Age park, focusing primarily on prehistoric events and the megafauna of 12,000 years ago. The park features a museum, visitor center, hiking, fishing lake, RV & tent campground, planned programs, special events and a bison herd. The park is world-renowned and is the birthplace of American vertebrate paleontology.
The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Placs, and as of 2002, the National Park Service deemed Big Bone Lick as an official Lewis and Clark Heritage Trail Site.
